About Us
Established in 1922, Independent Paint and Glass has been a cornerstone of quality and reliability in Chattanooga for over a century. We have evolved over the years to meet the changing needs of our community while maintaining our commitment to excellence.
Our Journey
Independent Paint and Glass was founded in Chattanooga in 1922, with formal incorporation following in 1925. In the summer of 1960, John Kidwell began working for the company, later returning in the spring of 1971 after serving honorably in the Navy. His dedication and expertise became integral to our success.
In the early 1980s, John Kidwell and his wife Doris assumed ownership, steering the company through dynamic times and changes. Mary Crimmins' departure in the mid-1980s was significant for our company. As a well-known local figure, Mary was celebrated for her expertise in paint color selections and design input in homes all over the Chattanooga area. Her departure marked a shift in our focus, leading us to consolidate our efforts and specialize in glass services, leading to our current identity as Independent Glass.
Transition and Continuity
Tragically, in 2021, we mourned the loss of Mr. John Kidwell, a beloved member of our family and a pillar of our legacy. In his memory, his grandsons, John and Eric Rimer, have stepped forward to lead the operations of our business. Mrs. Doris Kidwell continues to steward the company with grace and vision.
Our Team Today
Today, Independent Glass thrives under the guidance of John and Eric Rimer, with John serving as CEO and Eric as COO. Alongside long-time employees Walt Hall and Spencer Schoolfield, serving as Technician Supervisors, our team is strengthened by their years of expertise and dedication. Eric applies his industry experience and passion to drive operational efficiency and growth, while John leads with strategic vision and innovation.
